Homesick for God

I have chosen for today's reading
a poem by a much loved Indian poet of the 20th century, Rabindrinath Tagore.
He lived through the struggle for Indian independence and was a friend of Gandhi.
This poem evokes for me that longing adoration which mystics and lovers of God of all religions
try to put into words.

I think these words convey that homesickness of the heart for God, Heaven, whatever name you give it, which when awakened, makes of our lives a spiritual search for the One who is the only Source of true fulfillment and meaning.

Here is Tagore's beautiful poem-prayer.

In one salutation to Thee, my God,
let all my senses spread out
and touch the world at your feet.

Like a rain cloud of July hung low
with its burden of unshed showers
let all my mind bend down at Thy door
in one salutation to Thee.

Let all my songs gather together their diverse strains
into a single current,
and flow to a sea of silence
in one salutation to Thee.

Like a flock of homesick cranes
flying night and day back to their mountain nests
let all my life take its voyage to its eternal home
in one salutation to Thee.

My response:
what more can I say?
